Day and night clock

A gentle scene where the sky follows the real day where you are: dawn colours at your actual sunrise, a bright sky at midday, sunset glow at your actual sunset and stars at night, with the sun and moon moving across.

Sun times are worked out from your time zone by default. For exact times, choose “At your exact location” under Customise and allow location access — your position stays on your device. Turn on “Fast-forward the sky” to watch a whole day pass in a minute.

How to use

Questions

How are the sunrise and sunset times calculated?
With the standard NOAA solar equations, using either the main city of your time zone or, if you allow it, your exact location. They are usually within a minute or two of official times.
What happens near the poles?
During polar night the sky stays dark, with a faint glow around midday; under the midnight sun it stays light all day and night.
